Springtime Fishing - Florida Keys Tarpon Season

A special time of year
April through June bring warm water temperatures and the arrival of the Silver King. The ever so popular tarpon has been drawing sport-fishermen to Florida's shores for decades. Today, it's no secret that this stretch of time known as tarpon season, is best for finding these large migratory fish throughout the shallows surrounding the Florida Keys.

Conditions are often very conducive for sight-fishing the flats this time of year. Wind speeds tend to dropout as these months progress, making for great fly-fishing potential. Along with tarpon, one can expect chances at permit, bonefish, and large size barracuda in a day's time.

These gamefish are incredible and should be treated as such. Tarpon are migratory fish, and the spring months are when we find the largest specimens cruising through shallow depths of water. Witnessing these large sometimes 100+ pound fish in 4-5 feet of water is a sight to behold. Hooking one of these giants in such a setting is absolute chaos. Read more about tarpon fishing

Blue Sky Permit Fishing

Bluebird days like this one pictured tend to be most frequently seen during these months. Fish can't hide when cloud glare is removed from the equation, just one more reason this time of year rocks. The permit fishing is also pretty darn good, late May through June expect to see these bad boys. Read more about permit fishing

Bonefish love warm water, it's during these months we begin to see our beloved silver bullets return to the flats. The bonefish action gets better as June approaches, lasting well into the summer months. A great time of year to throw flies and artificial lures at these chunky FL Keys bonefish.
